FAQ
A selection of our most frequently asked questions. For more answers either contact us or visit our FAQ page.
How much does probate estate house clearance cost?
The cost for a house clearance really depends on a number of factors. Primarily the size of the house and the amount of items that need to be removed. The type of items that need to be removed can sometimes affect the cost also. For full house clearances it is always best for us to visit the property to allow us to offer an accurate quote. As a guide house clearances can cost between £250 and £1000. Our minimum charge is £60.
What’s included in your probate estate house clearance service?
Our hassle-free probate house clearance service includes the responsible removal of all / any items and waste that needs to be cleared from a property. This can include but is not limited to furniture, mattresses, white goods, clothes, small items, electronics and general waste & rubbish. We can clear an entire house including garages, lofts/attics, gardens and garden sheds.
We work with our customers to identify exactly what needs to be cleared. Everything that is removed is then responsibly recycled, sent for reuse or disposed of. If a customer prefers to keep something we can leave it in the property, take it to storage or can even take valuable items to local auction houses on behalf of the customer.
Before we finish we always hoover the property and give it a final tidy so it is ready for it's next chapter.
House clearance can be very hard work. Our experienced team can make the process easy and stress-free from beginning to end.
Who arranges and pays for probate estate clearance?
After the death of a loved one, the executors named in the deceased person's will are responsible for using any funds from the estate to meet final costs such as house clearance fees. The executor may be a family member or solicitor.
Do you need a licence to provide house clearance services?
Yes. It is vitally important that whichever house clearance provider you chose is fully licensed by the environment agency. This ensures that everything the provider collects will be disposed of correctly and legally. Otherwise there is a risk of fly-tipping which could result in a fine of up to £50,000 for the original owner of the waste. Everett’s House Clearance are also fully insured.
What do you do with the items you collect?
Environmental sustainability is a core focus for us. We aim to send zero to landfill and go the extra mile to recycle, reuse or repurpose the majority of what we collect. We have good relationships with various recycling operations around the country meaning we can recycle a lot more than you’d expect. Plastics, wood, paper and metal can all be recycled but also mattresses, sofas and even white goods including fridges and freezers. Other items will be donated to charity or resold.
I’m finding this process difficult, does that matter?
This is normal. Clearing a house after a bereavement is a difficult process but we want to make this as stress-free as possible. We will work with you to complete the process step-by-step and keep in close contact throughout. Every situation is different and we are experts at making sure each clearance fits to the individual needs of our customers. We are also trained in ‘grief and bereavement awareness’ so we can offer an empathetic and understanding service.
What if there are items of value in the house?
This is quite often the case. We can work with you or your probate solicitor to identify items of value and come up with a plan on how best to deal with these items. We can take these items to auction on your behalf or offer a reduction on the cost of the clearance for those items.
I don’t want everything in the house taken away, is that ok?
Yes, of course. We will work with you to identify what we can and cannot take. We can also take things to storage on your behalf if you don’t have anywhere to store the items.
We advise that you and your family members go through all the items to make sure you have identified what you want to keep. If, during the course of our clearance, we come across any items that we think you might have missed we will hold these back and contact you before disposing of them.
